Alienware ALX
Alienware's Silent Liquid Cooling technology was specifically designed
for ALX systems. An evolution beyond standard air-cooled designs, it
uses a specially formulated liquid and gold-plated, pure copper coolers
to keep the heat generated by internal hardware components in check.
Excess heat is absorbed by the liquid, which is moved away from
critical components through two pumps and cooled by a high performance
heat exchanger. |
Water transfers 30 times faster and holds 4 times more heat than air. Heat-producing devices in a computer are typically cooled using air, which involves mounting a heat sink and fan to each component. Heat generated by a processor is transferred to its heat sink, and a fan affixed to the heat sink forces air over its surface area. While altering the size of a heat sink can improve its efficiency, its performance is still limited because air absorbs and transfers heat very slowly. To help compensate for this, the fan is often run at higher speeds, which produces excessive noise. In comparison with air, Silent Liquid Cooling is extremely efficient with very little airflow, so system noise is dramatically reduced. The end result is a high-performance, near-silent system cooling solution.
Water cooling systems are composed of several key components, one of
which is a pump. This component is responsible for circulating fluid
through the system, from the reservoir to the cold plates, and into the
heat exchanger. The Alienware® ALX Active Silent Liquid Cooling System is based on a dual pump design, which increases reliability. If one pump should fail, the other will continue to operate, maintaining system operating temperatures and preventing potential system failure.
